The Things We Do For Love: Bathing a Cat

I never thought I would help bathe a cat.

“Cats bathe themselves,” you say. “You don’t need to do anything.”

Yes, I hear you. And that’s true for perfectly healthy cats. But sometimes you fall in love with a man who has a cat that needs help. Sometimes the furry little dude has an allergic reaction to something in Texas and stops bathing himself completely because his rash is bothering him and the vet sells you $25 cat-shampoo and tells you that you have to do it.

And then you panic.

I’ve had two cats of my own for years. And then a few months ago my boyfriend and his lovely floofy cat Linus moved in too. Adding a third cat to my life has totally changed my assumptions and my pet responsibilities. My two girls are fairly easy, almost never sick, eat basically whatever I give them.

Linus, unfortunately, needs a bit more attention. He had a bad reaction when they moved here and my boyfriend has had to spend quite a few vet visits trying to figure out why. Linus is a big, long-haired Persian and is 15 pounds. He’s giant, and he’s strong, and he has fur for days.

Just imagine trying to bathe him.

When my boyfriend brought the cat back from the vet and said he needed to try to bathe him I immediately offered to help. Even…
